What are the "state" fees for the licenses?

You have a year to pay all the state fees:
- Guard Card State Fee: $55
- Firearms Permit state fee: $100
- Livescan Fingerprints for both Guard Card/Firearms Permit: $117
- Baton Permit Fee: $60
-Firearms Assessment Test: $65
-Range Qualification Fees: $75

Total State Fees $472 paid in 6 payments AT YOUR OWN TIME, NOT DUE while in class and you have a year to ensure state fees are paid.

Only state fee due will be $75 during live-fire range qualification to rent a handgun, ammunition to qualify, target, and safety materials.

I have Over 30 years of experience in the criminal justice field. I'm a former Staff Sargent, U.S Marine (Infantry and Embassy Duty) and Police Officer!


I ran a Criminal Justice Program for a private college and helped hundreds of individuals to get into Law Enforcement, Security, Corrections, and other public safety careers.


I was a former police officer and have real world street experience. I loved going out on patrol every day, making arrest, doing vehicle stops, investigations, drug testing, and perfecting my officer safety tactics and techniques.

What are the requirements to attend the BSIS Security Officer Academy Program?
• Must be minimum 21 year of age • Be a U.S Resident (green card) or U.S Citizen • NO Felonies • NO CURRENT Restraining Order • NO Domestic Violence Convictions
I don't own a handgun, can I still attend?
Yes, you can still attend the Security Officer Academy program if you do not own a handgun. Training guns will be provided during the classroom portion. You can rent a handgun at the gun range on live-fire range qualification for $75. Includes the use of the gun, target, ammunition to qualify, eye & ear protection.
I'm not 21 years of age yet, can I still attend the Security Officer Program?
Yes, you can still attend the Security Officer program, however, you won't be able to get the BSIS exposed firearms permit until you are 21 years of age.
What do I need to bring during the Security Officer Program?
Bring note taking gear (pen-pencil-& notebook). Bring your government issued Identification Card or Drivers License, a COPY of your U.S BIRTH CERTIFICATE or VALID U.S PASSPORT, PASSPORT CARD, GREEN CARD (if naturalized citizen) or DD214. (YOU MUST BRING ANY OF THOSE DOCUMENTS AS PER FEDERAL TO OBTAIN A FIREARMS PERMIT).
I have a "work permit" or I'm a DACA person, can I still attend the Security Officer Program?
Yes, but you will not be able to take the BSIS exposed firearms permit, minimum you must be a U.S Resident or Citizen to take the program.
What is the dress code?
DO NOT wear "sandals" "crocks" or OPENED toed shoes. DO NOT WEAR SHORTS or SWEAT PANTS. Must wear a T-Shirt or Polo shirt. Must wear jeans or slacks WITH BELT LOOPS and A BELT.
What is the location of the training?
Training will take place at PUBLIC SAFETY INSTITUTE's office: 6400 E. Washington Blvd - Commerce - CA 90040
What happens if I can not attend on day of course(s)?
You will be rescheduled on the next available dates of the Security Officer Academy program.
What courses are included in the Security Officer Program?
Includes the BSIS Exposed Firearms Permit, the BSIS Baton Permit, the California Guard Card License, TASER-Pepper Spray-Handcuffing Certificatication.
What are the Training Fees for the Security Officer Academy?
